Well once you have ordered it, start hunting for other gear to go with it. I spend alot of time looking over vintage gear on ebay. I try and order one small thing a week. kilt pin, palmoral, another pair of hose. just so I have more options when the kilt does arrive.
Though honestly its easier with the jones if you already have one kilt in the stable. Once you get about half way through your wait on your kilt its time to start thinking about what tartan you want for your next kilt.
The last kilt I ordered is going to be started in about 2 weeks or so. Right now I just picked out what tartan and fabric my next kilt will be. Now I have to order the fabric and get it to Tess. Spacing out my kilts helps me afford them and makes the jones hurt less.
If all ellse fails get another job. I'm rocking about 3 jobs right now, keeps me in kilts and my mind off what kilt is on its way.

It's worse when your tartan has to be woven, then shipped to the maker, then sewn up. I've been waiitng since mid-spring! Now I've given up on the idea of having it for Stone Mountain Games. Unless Chattancat can perform a conjuring miracle.
Go to thrift stores and look for broaches or pins that will make a good kitl pin - don't buy the mass-market sword and clan crest.
Go to mil surplus and look for a good wooly-pulley jumper, combat boots for casual wear, etc.
get a hobby.
buy some leather and make a sporran, belt, etc.

I take a seat on the back porch, fire up the old "Peterson" with a bit of McClelland, enjoy a dram or two of my favorite single malt, and drift away into tartan day dreams. Some times it helps to find something to do with one's hands. Sometimes I take out my pocket knife and whittle-- it takes the edge of one's nervous energy and helps to channel one's creative energy--sometimes with a pleasing outcome....

This rings a bell for me. I had been hoping to wear a Mighty Men tartan kilt to an Angus Buchan evangelical gathering here in Port Elizabeth in March. But now I hear that the first public batch of tartan will only be available in February . . .
Perhaps I should remind the wife that she said I could enter Matt Newsome’s annual kilt raffle. That way I might have a kilt in my clan tartan by March . . .

Mike

Well, I got home from work this evening and there was a package from Matt Newsome on my doorstep. The sgian I ordered has arrived. That's the last of the things I've ordered.
Tomorrow I will be calling USAKilts to place an order.
I wish I believed in reincarnation. Where's Charles Martel when you need him?

Sometimes it is really bad! I am in Iraq and my new sporran is being delivered to Iowa (home) I won't see them from months! I do have my Freedom Kilt with me however!! Take freedom where you can!
