I think I have to stand with Dale on this one. Very effective technique. I've seen it work, and I've used it to advantage. As he says, context, experience, and good instincts are relevant in the application. I also like a quick mouth, when I can pull it off. In an all-night diner, hunched over a sandwich, I was
noticed by the guy on the next stool. Grinning and chuckling, he elbowed his buddy and spun his stool toward me. "Hey. You got a date tomorrow night?"
I just made a sidelong response_"No, I don't think so, yet. What difference
does it make?" Much elbowing of buddy and laughing " 'cause I ain't either."
He and buddy laughing. I turned my stool to face him, squared up, popped the pecs, and said very quietly, "I don't know you. Maybe you like guys, and that's OK, but it happens I like girls". His buddy fell OFF his stool laughing at
him. It didn't hurt that at the time I was in a tie-dyed tank top worn on a
46" chest over a 26"waist, but I hadn't called him anything, hadn't hit him,
his own buddy was laughing at him, not me. I finished my sandwich. Not flashy or funny, but effective in the moment.
