...Generally speaking all ghillie brogues available in today's market place are outdoor shoes, as they are of heavier construction. This being the case, while they are suitable for day wear, they are less than ideal for either day or evening formal attire.
Were it me, I'd opt for either the evening shoes from Brooks Bros., or the formal Highland brogues (as worn by officers of kilted regiments) for black tie, and go with a pair of well-shined black oxfords for day wear.
Thanks for that, indeed I was thinking red laces in ghillies. Mine don't seem to be as chunky as many I've seen. In fact, to me they seem less clunky than the officers brogues.
