Actually tweed can be made from almost any sort of weight of yarn. The term tweed isn't actually a rigid classification! Some of the looser weaves I might be a little hesitant, but to date I've ripped Harris tweeds, Heavy Italian ones, Marton mills ones, and not had a problem, but I do test a little first , jsut to be sure.
