All's Well Long Island North Shore
The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for much of the New York City area, including Nassau County and the North Shore of Long Island where we live. The forecast includes 12"-18" snow accumulation, drifts of 3 feet to 4 feet, and winds up to 50 miles per hour. No flights are going out of any of the area airports.
We have both of my sisters and their families staying with us for Christmas, 15 people strong, including my sister's two year old daughter and two WEEK old son. We have had a grand time of it, including walking out in the bizzard to go to the movie theatre this afternoon.
The winds and snow seems to be pretty much as promised, it is quite a gale out there just now. My office door in the basement blew open an hour ago, which required me to lock the outer storm door against the strength of the wind. We live pretty much right on the water of Long Island Sound, on Manhasset Bay, and the wind is fairly robust here even in gentle times.
We have fires going in the various fireplaces throughout the house, have sung Christmas carols around the piano, and watched several fun movies. We did make a run to the store for extra batteries and snow melt, but other than that took no extraordinary measures to get supplies. We previously laid in a great amount of food for Christmas and after, and have plenty to get us through come what may. We have enjoyed the howl of the wind, and have enjoyed watching the snow swirl up to the neighboring rooftops.
Tomorrow, we will toboggan [sled] on a nearby golf course that has vast expanses and rolling hills that allow one to build up to a great speed. We are fortunate, and will be safe and warm.
Thanks for your good wishes, and we wish a safe and happy time to our fellow eastern seaboarders who are going through the storm as well. Yours Aye

Reason: spelling
"Before two notes of the theme were played, Colin knew it was Patrick Mor MacCrimmon's 'Lament for the Children'...Sad seven times--ah, Patrick MacCrimmon of the seven dead sons....'It's a hard tune, that', said old Angus. Hard on the piper; hard on them all; hard on the world." Butcher's Broom, by Neil Gunn, 1994 Walker & Co, NY, p. 397-8.
