Had to add a note about the shells.
I just put the nuts, which are in their shells, on a metal tray in the oven. It's a gas oven, so there is a flame involved.
The larger nuts can be placed on the shelf rack. I usually have the oven turned to a low temperature, and they can sit there for hours.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…
