First Kilt, help!
Hello All,
OK, I have done it, I got my first kilt. Now I feel I may need some advice.

One of the questions I have concerns the jacket, and is it ok with the Kilt? Another is what color tie can I wear?
I welcome all advice.
Thank you

The jacket is to some eyes a bit long, but I would not worry about. As to ties, I would avoid orange, but most colors that don't clash with blue or green should be ok. BYI the way, you look very well. Welcome to kilting!

I'll agree with Geoff that the jacket is a bit long, but will do for now, however as for tie colour, I'd say, "Yes". Just compliment something else in the ensemble and nearly anything is doable.

I'll echo Xman about the jacket....it is a bit too long. Also, I would not wear my sporran chain thru the loops on my belt. Just let it hang or perhaps get a couple of hangers from one of the outfitters who advertise here.

if you can either find a kilt pin or a large safety pin type thing that would help it look better... as far as the chain goes i just went to goodwill and got a purse for around 57 cents, took the strap off of it and now its a sporran strap or get hangers.

You wear it well! And I'm digging your choice of style with your beard!
I would echo the others on the jacket being a little long for a kilt jacket (kilt jackets are much shorter than Saxon jackets), as well as not putting the sporran chain through the belt keepers.
I don't know much about Sport kilts, but it seems to me that your belt is pretty consistently riding a couple of inches lower than one would normally see it. Does the Sport kilt have belt loops that make it ride there? Or is it just slipping down due to the weight of the sporran hanging from its keepers? I would think it would be better up toward the top of the kilt (covering the Sport kilt logo).
Other than that, I think you've a good handle on wearing the kilt well. Looks great!

If you have a jacket that you will wear with only the kilt you can have someone or pay someone to convert it into a kilt jacket
Here is a good thread on that

Everything's looking good to me. I wouldn't agree that the jacket is too long, the sporran is in exactly the right place in relation to it. If anything you may be wearing your kilt too high on the waist which gives this effect - might look better with a waist coat. Also your sporran strap shouldn't really be through the belt loops (although I did wear mine in that fashion at one time because I don't have hips to hang it on). All in all you're looking good and doing the kilt proud.
The Kilt is my delight !

Those aren't belt loops. Those are the leather loops on his belt.

I don't agree. The kilt height looks great to me. The jacket is a bit long. I do agree that a waistcoat/vest would look spectacular. Other than the other things already mentioned I think you look awesome. It's funny how many people start with sport kilts. (myself included)
Just wait till you get your first wool kilt if you like wearing a sport kilt your going to go bonkers wearing a heavy weight wool kilt.
