Not bad. For a first outing, spectacular.

Ditto what everyone else said about the jacket. It doesn't look bad, and most people won't know the difference. but you did ask a bunch of kilties for an opinion. I've not had one (sport coat) altered by VMAC3205, but everyone who has swears by her work.

don't put the sporran strap through the belt keepers. Adjust the strap to hang the sporran exactly where you have it now.

As for ties, the sky is the limit. I have a MacKay kilt and have worn red, blue, silver and even a Scooby Doo tie with it. If you look at your tie rack and think "This might work", wear it. It probably does work.

Welcome to the kilted world. I wear mine more and more often.

Don't sweat it. They haven't even gotten sick of me, yet.

Ohiopiper beat me to the thing about routing the chain through the keepers. I won't say it's a no-no, but I couldn't do it. It's not a style thing though...I swing my sporran over to the side when I drive and when I use the restroom and the last thing I would want is something interfering, especially if there's a line.

The only thing I would do is remove the patch. I just don't think they look right in that spot, especially since they almost always stick out from under a belt. They're easy to remove. If you don't feel comfortable removing it yourself anyone you know who sews, does alterations or quilts could have it off there in about a minute with no damage. It's stitched through the velcro, but isn't necessary for holding it on. Mine was off day one.

All said, you're off to a good start...much better than I was that's for sure.

    Welcome to the obsession.

I agree that the jacket is too long. You should get a kilt jacket or have someone short an existing one.

The 'keepers' on the belt are actually meant to keep the two loops of the belt flatter. They sit along each side of the waist plate (buckle). Running the sporran chain through them is making the belt sag at the front.

    Other than that, looks good!
