Real aristocrats often dress somewhat eccentrically. Suits are worn until they are threadbare, shoes are may be so old they're held together by their high polish over ancient leather. They don't much agonize over what tie to wear.

I met the previous Duke of Argyll when the current one was just a toddler, when he was a young man in his 30s, just out of the army, and barely indistinguishable from the university student gardeners working around Inverary Castle. Blue jeans, an ancient sweater with holes in the elbows, rubber boots. Not like the Hollywood version of an aristocrat in the slightest.

A very nice man though who repaired the family fortunes and reputation, and after a disastrous fire, restored Inverary Castle. The current duke, has a real job - but spends as much time in Scotland as he can. Some clan chiefs have abandoned Scotland - and their chiefly duties - entirely. Perhaps their ties match their outfits now though.
