I have to agree Jock. At first, I just didn't respond anything to this thread on the whole mother's addage "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." However, I have to wonder why they didn't select a nice tartan--there are so many to choose from. I wonder if those gents could choose to wear a tartan kilt, or if that is the "uniform" and they are required to wear that specific kilt. I suspect that latter...

It looks like they can wear the pattern both horizontal and vertical. I am curious what that back looks like. Is it pleated, or is it just a skirt? The theme seems to carry over to the Mrs. jacket as well.

I heartily second that comment, there are so many wonderful tartans sufficient to meet so many tastes, preferences, etc.

without the sporran, these kilts while fairly attractive on the wearers, despite the migraine like zig zags, bring us back to ' it ain't a kilt, its a skirt'

Without a belt or sporran these skirtlike garments look more like sarongs than kilts. I, too, would like to see a good pleat shot. I suspect the pleats on these garments would look passing strange indeed.

Another concern I have is that doormen usually try to look at least well put together, if not actually impressive, in order to make a good impression. I'm not as worried about the haircut as Jock, but I do think this chap looks pretty sloppy. It could be the best hotel in Edinburgh and I would think twice or thrice about it if the employees are allowed to dress that sloppily. There's a difference between "casual" (what they're probably aiming for) and sloppy.
