Of course the "patron saint" of civil engineers is my great-great grandfather Sir Sandford Fleming, from Kirkcaldy in Fifeshire. His contibutions were many: the Prime Meridian, 24 hour clock, standard time, the Canadian Pacific Railway, the Pacific Cable, iron bridges, lift locks--to name just some of his contributions.
