Difference between most of your confessors and us is guilt! They confess in private because of guilt; we do in public because of pride. Last week I was wearing all the finery at a Formal Dinner. A gentleman asserted I could not be wearing the kilt correctly if I was not regimental; told him the only one who was privileged to that information was my wife and she was in New Mexico (I was in California).

That same night I got a wolf whisle...From a lady who was 82! She said she loved men in kilts and it was just to d@#m bad more men did not wear them. I humbly agreed.

I will say that we are asking for these comments by wearing such a garment in public. Not that this excuses the ignorance. We should just expect it.

Another tongue in cheek answer would be to ask him if he'd like to check for himself whether you're regimental or not.

Have to be aware of the location, and surroundings. Some guys will check. ;)

I should think that the best response would be that if you're not wearing a kilt as a part of a regimental uniform no one should care if you're "regimental" or not. Even if you are, only a superior has the right to ask!

I posted this in another thread and forgive the new guy to jumping in with both feet...

I don't tend to frequent formal occasions if I can avoid them. Generally speaking, the big tattooed guy with the sailor mouth doesn't generally go over to well. But on occasion, I have found myself in the need of fancier dress.

My Lady loves a particular restaurant in Downtown Fort Worth that serves all you can eat meat served Brazilian style on a sword. It is a fancier place and they have a dress code prohibiting jeans ( a rarity in Texas, to be sure).

On the rare chances we have had to darken the doors of this establishment, I have worn my Kilt, with a highland shirt, vest, knee-high boots, and either my flat cap or, if I am feeling froggy, My balmoral.

The restaurant has always been very receptive, and I get many admiring comments from the patrons, and generally some intelligent questions from ignorant (And i do not use that in the negative connotation) patrons who wish to know more.

After dinner, we leave and walk out into Sundance square where it is a different story. The square is usually littered with college students looking to drunk and score some "company" for the evening. Thats when the idiot comments come out. I once had a kid tell me I was wearing a nice skirt and blah blah blah. I asked him "How immasculating would it be for you to have your @$$ kicked by a guy in skirt?"

He moved along quietly.

Wow... not sure how I got off on this rant... but I say that education is key, but some just dont want, or care to know.
