    A Proper Dirk....almost.

I picked up the book Carving Scottish Dirks by Vince and Grace Evans ( http://www.lulu.com/product/paperbac...author/right/1 )a little while back and it inspired me to attempt what turned out to be very fun and educational.
The book is right up my alley ( full of pictures ) and it was a great aid in the process. I used a burled chunk of black walnut for the handle, brass, basswood for the scabbard and a piece of gator printed leather. My soldering needs work....BAD. Anyway here are some pics.
Shaped handle and basswood chunk which will be the scabbard:

    Handle formed with first brass:

    Knotwork etched:

    Carving started:

    Slowly getting there:

    More to come:

That is one skill that I am envious of. Great work.
    Did you design the knotwork?
