Wearing my kilt downtown on a Friday Night
I am new to being kilted. So far I have worn my kilt to the office twice. I live and work in Ottawa, Canada, and I am in my young thirties.
Last night, which was a Friday, I wore my kilt out and we attended several dance clubs, pubs and a restaurant. Obviously on Friday nights the downtown core is very busy with lots of people.
I got nothing but compliments, fist bumps, good comments and lots of smiles, mostly from the ladies, and even from all of the bouncers and super tough-looking security dudes.
It did not matter the gender or age group (at one club it was mostly 20 year olds) - people just seemed to like the kilt! In fact I have never met so many strangers in one night - people just seem to approach you when you are kilted...
I was truly expecting that some young 20 year old insecure guy would make some stupid comment about me being in a kilt. But nada! Even the young twenty year old guys liked it!

That's great! I wore my kilt to a St Paddy's Day 5k Dash and to my son's soccer match this morning. The only negative comment I received was for wearing my Green Bay Packers t-shirt. Thanks for posting.

I applaud you! You came over your nerves and were rewarded. Remember those positives when a negative remark does happen, as the positives far outweigh them.
Good job!

Hello,
I wear my kilt 3 or 4 times a week in all sorts of venues. I certainly have eperienced a good deal of curiosity but everyone has been good natured. As it happens I rather like being the center of attention anyway.

First time I wore my kilt out was when I had to call in a shop in the centre of Thurso. Nobody took any notice.

Hello,
A kilt might be more noticeable in Des Moines, Iowa!

Well, this is a good weekend to wear it, with it being St. Patrick's Day weekend and all! Glad you had a good time! I did, too, and will be posting pics as soon as they're done uploading.

I would have been amazed if you had said otherwise!

I wore my kilt in Wright County, Iowa (About 2 hours north of DSM) back in 2007 whilst visiting my mother's hometown and had no problems whatsoever.
