I am amused by the idea of 'traditional'. To my understanding (please correct me if I'm wrong), not wearing anything under a kilt comes from the Scottish regiments of WWI to prevent "crotch rot" (hence the term "regimental"). To imagine that a Scottish lord, with all his wealth, did not gird his loins in the blustery winters is a bit of a stretch for me. Last week, although the day was pleasant at only 0C, when the wind picked up and the snow was blowing I was glad for a bit of girding!
Update: Just looked at another thread - Trews. Under a kilt? What The! - and there we have confirmation that yes, indeed, it has long been the custom (tradition?) to wear something under the kilt. Let's hear it for XMTS! If you didn't know it before you came, you will before you leave!
