That's what several of us were pointing out in the thread not long ago which devolved into whether or not to button the bottom button on one's waistcoat. Those saying not to kept citing Edward as the reason. Yet he does in all the photos I've seen of him wearing highland attire.

My take is simply that the "rules" for proper dress do not always carry over from Saxon to Highland attire.
