    Not kevlar, I hope...

I suspect the kilt would be made of whatever NyCot blend they are using now for BDUs, maybe brushed or otherwise peached on the inside, with stitched pleats and creases. And a "secret" under-apron flat pocket. Make it in a "night camouflage" check. I like the hose and boots above. Make the hose long enough to unroll over your knees in prolonged crawling situations.

I expect the belt could be the current standard issue web pistol belt. Blouse/tunic would be a modified version of the Ike jacket, in a dirt color, maybe with a few additional pockets and velcro closures. Alternatively, a slightly shortened M-65 jacket, with sporran cutaway.

NO waistcoat, or a polyester fleece zippered one.

Cotton fabric "Sherlock Holmes" fore and aft headgear, representing a blend of the traditional deerstalker and a boonie hat, in the same color as the tunic.

Figure, if we wanted to be strictly practical, many soldiers would be wearing lycra/kevlar bodystockings, or something based more on them than on shirts and trousers. If we aren't going that way ( and I don't think we should) then the alternative is a mix of the traditional and the more or less practical.

If you wanted to be mean (and practical) you could make the blouse with big red splotches, to fool the enemy into thinking he had already made a hit.
