Doc Canary, you had a good case. Shame on the state attorney for dropping the charges!

My two cents:
Your commitment to your wife is stronger and more important than any garment or ancestry. However,
My significant other despised the idea of a kilt at first, but now we are about a year in and I am wearing one ( that she is buying me as my groom present) in my wedding! So, it takes some time, but my guess is that she will come around.
In the meantime, here is the link for all those wondering:

Also, take her to some highland games and have her watch the athletes. I told my fiance I wanted to compete and buff out a bit more like those guys, and she became a lot more fonder of the kilt. Food for thought. God bless and I will be praying it works out.

Here's the way I see it:
I have enough respect for my wife and her sovereignty as a person to not dictate to her how to dress. I expect the same. Give your wife exactly the same respect she gives you. If she dictates to you what you can and can't wear, you have the right to do the same to her. You're not a child. You're old enough to dress yourself, as is she. Bottom line is respect for each other as individuals. She says "I don't want you wearing that skirt. You look like a woman." then it is perfectly appropriate for you say "Cool. No problem. I don't want you wearing jeans. They make you look like a rhinestone cowboy." You get the same respect that you give.

I have seen a few posts similar to this one on the forum. All I can do is offer you the same answer I would give if you walked into my shop with the same question.
If you walked into my shop with this question I would have to ask myself "why are you asking me this?"
Just as I would never involve myself with "the question" of what you do or do not wear under your kilt, I would never presume to involve myself in what goes on between a man and his wife.
If you are asking for my approval, sorry, none of my business.
If you are asking for my sympathy, also, none of my business.
I would however be wondering to myself why you are wanting to buy a kilt if you have not already worked this out with your wife.

Mike, thanks for your kind words. As stated, things went the way I expected, so my determination of justice was based on principle and consternation I could cause to the assailant.
Due to our obviously counter culture statement made by our kilts, often times others feel free to ascribe motives and reactions to us based on our dress. Although it was seen as something frivolous by the authorities, I did not and refused to assume their view. The occurrence has actually strengthened my bond and commitment to the kilt wearing community. Since the event, my kilt inventory has increased by 4, with the current acquisition being a Utilikilt purchased today.
I hope no one else has had a remotely similar experience. Be sure to take any experience and reaction you receive while wearing your kilt as a chance to educate and enlighten others and the public at large.
