The ideal, obviously, is to lose weight to fit in your kilt! However, that takes time, and if that can't be done, then the second best option is to have the kilt altered to fit your new size. However, that also takes time (and money) and if you can't afford either of those two things or if, like you, you are determined to lose the weight and don't want to alter your kilt twice, the strap extenders are a good alternative.
That's pretty much what they are intended for -- a temporary measure to use either while you are losing weight, or if you don't have time to get your kilt altered before you need to wear it.
