And now that I have one, my lass is warming up to the idea of modern kilts

I think that's because you wear it well. My wife was the same way, because most guys she saw wearing an American style kilt looked terrible in it, because they've got no clue how to wear one. I know for a lot of people, that's the whole point, there are no "rules" with a Utilikilt. But if you wear it like you don't care, you will look like you don't care. Period. In your pictures, you're showing the the thing a little respect instead of just throwing it on like an old pair of cargo shorts, so of course your lass thinks you look good in it!
