Tilted Kilts seem to thrive in the Chicago area....there's one downtown and at least one in a Southwestern suburb near me. Haven't been to either...in civvies or in a kilt.
My son does trivia on Wednesday nights at the one downtown...I threatened to show up to watch and got a stern warning to NOT wear a kilt..."...I don't know if you've ever been in this place, but it's actually a really serious sports bar...". But then, that's my son...
Evanston is a Northern suburb and they have some issues about keeping the "tone" of their wonderful community up. They also have the added burden of dealing with all of those horrible Northwestern University students and their wild behaviour.
I visited a Tilted Kilt yesterday for the first time, it was in Woodridge I believe. And while the women were lovely and lovely to look at what they were wearing was in no way a kilt, not even a kilted skirt. But kudo's to an attempt to look like kilts. they all had white knee socks with little red flashes and wore a chain sporran belt with a small sporran wore off the right hip to carry their notepads and pens in. I think I'll show up in a kilt next week.
