    The only issue with those red-top hose is that (here in the States) they are immediately recognized by many as Boy Scout hose. So while they work perfectly with a kilt if worn with the Scout uniform, as Michael is doing, I think if one were to take to wearing them wit ordinary Highland attire, you should expect to hear a lot of, "Hey, aren't those Scout hose?" and "Those look just like my old Scout socks," and "Are you a Boy Scout?" etc.

    So, not saying don't wear them. Just pointing out that they are easily and quickly recognizable as a style of socks associated specifically with the Boy Scouts, so be prepared for that association if/when you wear them.

    That's a great looking kilt and I like that kilting is accepted in the Boy Scouts. Is the metal sporran chain part of the uniform or could you swap it for a leather strap? Chains can cause undue wear and tear on your kilt...
