This topic is precisely why my cleanliness compulsive Wife is reluctant to host a kilt night and Scotch tasting at our home. Considering how politically correct it might be to pass out "chux" on arrival to protect newish furniture. ;)

Some people, you dress him up in a nice kilt and he still doesn't clean up well.
"The Highland dress is essentially a 'free' dress, -- that is to say, a man's taste and circumstances must alone be permitted to decide when and where and how he should wear it... I presume to dictate to no man what he shall eat or drink or wherewithal he shall be clothed." -- The Hon. Stuart Ruaidri Erskine, The Kilt & How to Wear It, 1901.

Well, I would presume that the "accident" in question was caused by the aforementioned drunkenness rather than going regimental. Most people, men and women, wearing unbifurcated garments make sure the garment is between them and what they're sitting on in most circumstances. I would assume that at a scotch tasting (rather than a bottle emptying contest) your guests would retain their composure and self control and not sit bare a***d on your furniture.

As an alternative, if you are close to the friends you would invite, a discreet explanation of your wife's compulsion and a request to wear underclothes might be in order. If you told your wife of this request it might mollify her and it's highly unlikely she would ever know if your guests had complied or not.
