He's a great character who is drawn pretty close to a real person, in that he's a really good guy overall but has his bad days and flaws. He's just recognized for being written fairly groundbreaking as openly gay, with storylines sometimes revolving around that.
By that way, it seems my worries were ungrounded, probably because most of the kids and teens who watch Glee are already on Kurt's side and rooting for him. What the girls wore to the prom was probably much more memorable to most of them, and the storyline of why voting a gay male as prom queen can be hurtful will probably stick out more in their minds than what Kurt wore this episode.
Glad there was no cause to worry. I still don't really understand the fuss much.
