Where you wear the Kilt - A Spin-off From "Kilted Anxiety"
A few days ago our own Cowher voiced concerns over anxiety not in WEARING the kilt itself, but getting out of the house.
Many of the suggestions started with going to where you know you'll feel comfortable being kilted.
In the spirit of that advice, I thought a thread on exactly where we all wear our kilts and feel comfortable, from select Scottish themed evenings to down-and-dirty pub crawls and everywhere in between, might serve as an aid to those who suffer from similar anxiety or who just need a shove out the door from time to time.
For me, I usually wear the kilt casually. In cooler months with a sweater to our local St. Andrew's meetings or pubs (hose up), in warmer months with a polo to the zoo with my son (shorter hose scrunched down).
I'd personally like to wear it more dressy (nice night out) but my wife doesn't like being "shown up"
I think I'll also start to wear it to more formal evening non-Scottish functions as well, as I really like the overall effect and feel vs my tux.
It is my goal in life to not have to wear trousers at all. I don't care if that means linen shorts in the sweltering summer heat or a kilt when temperatures allow. I have a great dislike for "pants" (both the UK and American meanings).
So, where do YOU love to wear your kilt?

I began by wearing them to Highland games and celtic functions. Then I moved to scotch tasting events as well. My fiance, mother, and I were in Prescott, Arizona for the Highland games when I was able to wear my kilt to the biggest Western bar in the area (this was pretty intense, and I have never had so many stares). A few weeks ago I started wearing my kilt to my local Irish pub that I frequent quite often. The biggest set-back for me has been that I dont have (until the next couple days) but one kilt, and I am spill stuff on myself quite often. So, this has been my experience. I will say, I was really surprised that for the most part it goes ignored out in public situations.

Lately it seems I have been wearing a kilt to concerts. I've been to see Iron Maiden, Katy Perry, Bret Michaels, and Floggin Molly kilted in the past months. I plan on wearing a kilt next month to see Poison, Motley Crue, and Dropkick Murphys.
I've also worn a kilt for other casual activities, including mountain hikes with my family, trips to Disneyland, running the Warrior Dash, and visits to the pub.
A friend just started training for Highland Games, and is trying to get me involved in this. Obviously, I will go kilted for moral support, but may eventually try it out.
I plan to wear my tank to my wifes' 20 year high school reunion next month too.
See, there really isn't a right or wrong place to wear a kilt. Hope this help some of you out.

Generally, I feel most comfortable places where there are others kilted. This last weekend, I attended the St. Louis Ren Faire (because you are never the weirdest one at a RenFaire...). I was very comfortable there. I also went to the Missouri Botanical Garden today kilted before coming home. I figured the average Botanical Garden visitor is probably not the type to publicly make fun...

I wear the kilt everyday and have so for some time now. As a matter of fact the only trousers I own are a beat up pair of jogging pants that I wear for working around the house or under my robe. I can't think of anywhere I wouldn't be comfortable wearing my kilt and must admit to finding it odd that anyone would.

I wear a kilt everywhere, except to work. When I get home from work each day, I put on a kilt (usually my acrylic). Weekends, I am kilted. There is no place that I will not kilt.
My very first day in my first kilt, I took my wife out to lunch, went to our local Chinatown to shop the markets, went to two of our local grocery stores, the public library, Blockbuster to get some videos, and a local drugstore, then just around the neighborhood. All things I normally do each weekend. I look forward to wearing my kilts. It isn't a matter of occasion, just a matter of when I am not at work and can.
My biggest dilemma is how dressy I want to go and what I am limited to... usually by my wife... who I suspect puts the brakes on me because I am just SO GOOD LOOKING in my kilts that she doesn't want to fight off crowds of screaming girls and...OW! stop hitting me!!!... sorry.... what I meant to say was, that I am limited by my wife so as not to embarrass the proper highlanders with my over the top flash because I have no sense....
apparently, that is the correct answer.

Where do I wear mine? I wore one to the Bruno Mars concert last night. (I have a 15 year old daughter who loves him. I know, he's radio friendly bubble gum.) I wore an Amerikilt to fix my fence this afternoon. I wear it to the pub, to see bands that I personally enjoy (like Iron Maiden and Seven Nations). So apparently, I'll happily wear it anywhere and everywhere.

When I purchased my first kilt I was in the Army stationed in Germany and wore it to some parties a couple of times. Also wore it just out and about town a few times as well. After I left the service I have really only worn it to Highland Games, both stateside and once in Scotland. Would love to finally make a Burns Supper but still have not made it to one yet. It is just not my stye to wear a kilt just to wear one. I still enjoy wearing khaki slacks too much when I am out and about. Plus it would not be appropriate attire for my line of work where pants are much more practical.
