When given a choice, most people will choose.

Haha same here, although it didnt seem prudent to give a long-winded answer to my own question. Not that I had an answer, but that hasn't stopped me before!

Scott, that's probably the best and most accessible explanation of naming
practices I've seen. Thanks. I knew all that from my own research, but it
would have taken me three times as many words to say it. If someone chooses to assemble a "Scottish 101" instruction thread, it should be included.
The arguing line is both funny and part of the explanation of my family's
"feeling Scottish".
The "something a Scot wouldn't do" is the proof that we in the US are, for the most part, not posers trying to be Scots, We would, by and large, do just that, and I for one find it both interesting amusing that anyone would think
one is more correct than the other. They both just are how some people do it.
I love how Scots do it. I am informed by it. My choices are my own.

That's why when I see McSomething on a divorce file at work I leave extra space on the shelf.

I would hope you were joaking
To say what you did say would indicate to me that you did not take the time to type your answer to an honest question. You have the right to think this but I surprised you say it in print. Sorry but I do not agree with your statement.
I answer with your own saying.
"He was a dreamer, a thinker, a speculative philosopher ... or, as his wife would have it, an idiot."
I assume you were having a wee Dram and would hope you did NOT think out your answer.
A wee dram is always good to show the true man...

I believe most of the evidence points to Allan Breck Stewart.
