I like that idea... In other words, any photo submitted during that month would automatically become eligible to win best photo for that month.
The only potential problem I can see with that is the administration though. Most of us are pretty busy, the least whom the mods -- do we really want to add that to their list of responsibilities as well?
Just bouncing ideas around here.
I can quite see that the mods, probably, don't
want to be landed with more work, but did they not have an imput with the system we have?I stand to be corrected there, of course.
Castledangerous, if I understand his point correctly, raises the valid point that the pictures maybe too small. Well if we were a photographic website no doubt he would be correct, but we are not, so a certain amount of non technical latitude as far as photographic skill is concerned could be lived with, perhaps?

Perhaps it's just a monthly thread that opens with the "guidelines" for that month. Then everyone that is interested can post their entry. The end of the months could be voting, no? I don't know....that could be difficult to manage but I'm just brainstorming too.
How about a photo of the "quarter" with people allowed to submit their own (already uploaded to Photobucket by the owner). They send the mods (or a particular mod) their pic. The mods pick the top 6 or 10 and put them in a thread titled "Spring Picture Poll" or "Winter Picture Poll" or something. The first post is the top pictures, numbered. At the top is a poll with each number as a "Vote". Set the time limit for the poll to 1 week and let the voting begin. The winner has their picture up for 1 month.
