I have an Eagle's Nest Outfitters Single Nest hammock, but I decided to skip the slap straps. They have a bad reputation amongst the uber-hammock camping guys because they stretch too much (they're nylon). Many a hammocker has allegedly ended up with his butt on the ground by dawn.
I ditched the original rope and carabiners that came with my ENO Single Nest, and replaced them with Amsteel whoopie slings. This saves a lot of weight. For the tree straps, I use 1" poly webbing, tied in a marlinspike hitch to connect to the hammock suspension.
IIRC, the ENO hammocks are rated to 400 pounds.
I have had no problem, although I could see this maybe a possibility the more wear they get, but I have no problem just tightening them up a tad! ;)
I just love em cus they are a breeze to throw on and they cause .001% damage to the tree.
