Depending on how high the "gorge" or opening is, you might be able to chop off the skirt of the jacket and create a sort of Regency dandy short jacket that could work over a kilt. Had you bought it in bottle green velvet or burgundy, you might find the resulting jacket a little more practical. I think a DB jacket tends to be inherently very dressy for the kilt ( think of the Montrose doublet) but there do exist some interesting jackets made on formal patterns but of less formal fabric. I believe your jacket would fall into that category if you made the conversion.

It might wind up looking suitably Steampunk

Personally, I'd try to swap it with someone who could give you a single breasted model to work with.
