On the subject of constructing, Pete, will you be doing a check with the orderers to confirm size and pleat style prior to starting?

Thanks Mike , I'm at work and its a no bus day so I will be on and off Xmarks till I go home then its working on kilts for a wedding show on Sunday.

RockyR, thanks for the info- its all good banter we can all learn from.

Can't wait to see that big bolt of ML show up. MacHummel will usually bring it over so we can check new fabric out. Both MacHummel and myself will get first drool( not on the fabric, on ourselves). Then let the kilting begin.

Okay there seems to be some interest in the maple leaf kilt pin. I emailed the ebay seller and (s)he responded that indeed they do have more (none list at the moment) and are planning to relist more. I am thinking of getting the pewter colour as well as the brassy coloured one I already have (to be honest I was hoping for a more gold colour). Here is a link of my successful bid here All told it cost me less than $12.00 US total. I do have one concern that we may end up bidding against each other so I will enquire about a private lot sale. So lets see who's interested?

Me please. Brass is what really interests me to wear with the Maple Leaf, but I have a bunch of blue and green based kilts as well and a silver or pewter would be nice too.

Nice to hear from you. Don't be disappointed if MacHummel doesn't respond right away. He's sold a few kilts lately and is working like crazy to make new display kilts for the wedding show on Sunday in Fergus. He wanted to have as many formal kilts available to show. For Celtic festivals he likes to have a good mix of everything.

I have quite a few CCK kilts and this is what I know:

So far the selvedge on my kilts have been really good. A lot of the kiltmakers here that use PV use the same mill. I'm sure if the quality wasn't there they wouln't be busy.

He makes his more casual kilts to fit on the hips. He has made a lot of kilts sit more traditional, higher on the waist. I have mine in both. The more dressy kilts are made higher and my everydays sit lower. Both have there place. I don't always like to have on a kilt sitting up to high, especially in the summer heat.

I've never had problems with static cling, wrinkles or fabric balls.

I had him put a third strap on an 8 yrd Wool Black Stuart. I know he does it. He does prefer to measure by hand if he can so the third buckle doesn't pull. To me it's merely decorative so I wouldn't want it to pull the kilt out of shape by not being placed just right. I know the buckles he uses are adjustable by holes. He aims to hit the middle hole to allow for those skinny days when you need to tighten and those days when you need a little extra room to let out. A lot of us have so many kilts we have the measurements down pat.

He includes belt loops unless stated otherwise. All the straps are of the same good quality of other kiltmakers here (except for R-kilts, he makes his own). He has gotten better straps in the last year from a more reliable source. I almost sure he can get brown.

None of my kilts except wool are lined. He lines all the wool kilts an will line Pv if needed but I don't think it's necessary. I prefer less weight in my PV kilts. Adding extra fabric in a lining is adding more weight to an already heavy kilt.

I won't answer at all on the more detailed things you asked ie.fell line, pleating to stripe and sett size.

He'll answer to all this later. I just hope I could suffice as I know he'll be busy until tomorrow late. I hope I could help, I by no means am trying to put words in his mouth and answer for him. I'm just telling you what I know or have experienced. He'll get back to you i'm sure. I'll remind him at the show tomorrow.
