Wolfgang a tongue in cheek comment is one that is not meant and is often blatantly false.
The Heidelberg reference would be about the duelling scars associated with that university (due to your tongue going through your cheek).
Hope this helps

Wolfgang,
I hate to tell you, but I don't think Bablefish translates South Alabama Redneck into English.
BTW, "tounge in cheek" comments are generally of a humorous nature, ranging from the dry play on words to some that are rather broad or even ribald.

Pardon me Phil, but if I told someone I thought them to be good material for "President of the Flat Earth Society," I'd be insinuating that I thought them to be, stupid, foolish, or complete idiots. I figured you meant the same thing, even if it was meant in a joking way. On line, we can't see the grin or wink.
From your comment about offering a hand and buying a pint, I figured you did not intend the jibes to be taken seriously. But they were and you gave serious offense to a valued member of this group.
I still think you owe Rob an apology. And if you can come up with legitimate refutation of the evidence Rob offered in his essay, please trot it out so we can see you put it through its paces.
there you go again, not reading my posts, I said "sorry robbie" and said I would be the first to offer my hand.
as for the proof, I said "IF" I had proof some people would not believe it anyway.
here is my quote"like I said, I may have proof rawlinson invented the small kilt, but you would still never admit it"
here is my second quote".even if rawlinson did invent the small kilt(with proof),most scots would ever admit to it"
as for the flat earth comment, he can say it but I can't????
it's an insult when I quote him????
I do wish you would all read my posts in full and not read things into my posts.
Sorry Phil, I won't miss read you posts again.
Guys,
If he comes up with any interesting evidence to refute Robbie, let me know if it sound reasonable. Since I can't seem to read his posts with out "misreading" them I guess I'll just have to quit reading them at all.
good idea

Perhaps you are right Bubba.
But since I seem to be incapable of understanding Phil H's posts, it is probably for the best that I don't read them, and most definitely don't respond to him.
I don't plan to leave any time soon, unless Hank informs me I'm persona non grata, so I suppose non-intercourse is the best course of action.
BTW, Bubba, am I a victim of speed reading, brain farts or blindness, but I saw no references to the Flat Earth Society in Robb's essays. Did I overlook something?

Doc, I don't think you missed anything. My own opinion is it might be a good time to let the thread lapse. It's already created too many hard feelings. I pretty much stayed out of it because I suspected trouble would come of it.

Now, if you’re willing to believe that Rawlinson could force a group of Highland lumberjacks, for that is what they were, to cut their kilts in half simply because he said so then I’m sorry, you are obviously a candidate for membership of the Flat Earth Society – they’d have been far more likely to have cut Rawlinson in half!
Just for the record (not picking sides here guys) check out #1 where Robbie does mention the Flat Earth Society.

Thank you for pointing that out Colin. I'd read the post twice and skimmed right over it. Just goes to show the rudeness went both ways.
