Suddenly it's turned horribly wet, windy, and dark in the middle of the afternoon. (English midlands). I'm glad I did my shopping this morning, and don't have to go out in it!

The storm went through last night but wasn't bad down here in Norfolk, So as yesterday we've had dry and sunny weather all day.

On this New Years Day there is not a breath of wind, no rain but damp, with temperatures dropping-------snow later?

This patch of metro Chicago is at 24 F, fairly cool, particularly with a brisk wind's factor tossed in.
6 or so inches of snow / solid snow-ice mix on the ground.
Rather good day for indoor activities.

It was a treat clearing that mess, it was like shoveling a snow cone... 50 pounds per shovelful, backbreaking fun!
Typical Chicago weather, nearly 60 just before Christmas and 25 degrees right after....

When I woke up this morning it was a delightful -16 F / -27 C. I wanted to get a pic of me outside in a kilt but no one would go out there with me. So greetings from frozen Rexburg ID. LOL

It's been stinking hot, bushfires, a bit of a cool change today, so basically a Melbourne Summer.
Here is a photo of a very sensible Aussie Pipe Band hat, perfect for our weather. I was most pleased when I saw it yesterday. Whilst Glengarry's and Balmorals look terrific, they aren't very sun smart when performing outdoors in summer.

My son has recently moved to Washington State. The temps are inconceivably low for us- the other day it was 3- and they get snow there. Snow! My son is 25 and has never seen snow. He had to buy chains for his car- he's never seen those snow chains either. He also had to purchase up there some sort of Polar Expedition jacket. I haven't seen it, but he says they don't even sell things like that down here.

I had fun gathering all the winter bits like gloves, heavy hats, jackets, snowblower, boots, snow tires, etc after moving back to the Chicago suburbs after 15 years in Phoenix AZ. I'm glad I was born and raised here, the transition to winter was a good bit easier than a warm climate native
