Faol: Lookin' good in the wood - nice hat, great "modern hunting" kilt. With that long handle it looks like you're carrying a high-cap hand tool. Is that from Austria or made in 1911? ;-)
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Looks like the former to me: One accompanied me at work for some years, though the latter is my true love. :-)
Definitely works with the ensemble.

Thank you. The parentage is that of those made in 1911, but of a more extreme duty.

Aha, that says it.
And now, for my part, I'll try to be a good lad and say nothing further about the Kilt Accessory That Dare Not Speak Its Name.

One thing about the fedora I always look to is sleeve length. It seems like with a fedora or other dress felt etc hat that long sleeves and a collar just seems to work. Whenever I see a fedora paired with a tshirt or even a polo (by the by, the "fedoras" the hipsters are currently wearing are really Trilbys), it just seems to make the persons arms look puny.
For myself, I only wear a brimmed hat (I prefer a Homburg) with suit and tie, and often not without an overcoat, and it has to be close in tone to the suit.
Just experiment and see what you think.
PS Jock is the best dressed fisherman I have ever seen.

Lighten up buddy, isnt that kind of sarcasm embedded in our Scottish DNA? Think about it?

I am so very glad you posted this picture as just before I got to it i was thinking "I wonder what some of the traditionalists would think wondering about the Texas Scottish Festival?" where more than a few gents wear stetsons and cowboy boots with their kilts and hose.
I personally am somewhere in the middle. For formal events, I tend to go more traditional with my kilt attire, in bonnet, waistcoat, and (grudgingly) kilt hose with dress shoes. I take my ear rings out and wear long sleeves to cover my ink.
For my every day attire, its kilt with whatever tee shirt or button down(usually a rock/punk/metal band shirt) I pull out, my old Flight Deck boots and knee-high gaiters.
I believe in honoring the traditions when appropriate. But by mixing the kilt with modern attire, i feel it carries on the rebellious traditions of the Scots, as well as showing my pride. The kilt is always worn "correctly" (IE: waist level, pleats straight, and knee length), and the rest just seems to go with it because it speaks to who I am.
I loved the pics of the Fedora with the leather jacket. I personally couldnt pull that look off, but i thought it looked great. I also love seeing the ardent traditionalists in all their proper kit.
My point is, I think there is room for both schools of thought, and we can all coexist. And if the OP can pull off the Fedora look.. I say let her rip... just not when traditional dress is the Uniform of the Day.
