My favourite sporran is one from A&J Scott and co. from Aberdeen, it is from 1950 and was my fathers, the tassels have splayed just as you describe, it does not bother me one jot. As for the D rings, I think one possible work around is a solid strap instead of the D rings. Here is a photo that illustrates what I am talking about:

Don't get me wrong -- I really like the internal pockets on the carry-all. And I already had a leather strap with dog-clip ends and would just as soon keep that -- it's a nice strap.
My comments were about niggles -- not major problems. And I tried to suggest solutions. The 'D's have simply turned so that, instead of the straight edge being in the leather
part and the curved bits sticking out, the "corners" are now - one in the leather and the other sitting in the dog-clip. There may be a long-term problem with the leather wearing
more quickly than it should, but that's the extent of the problem.
I suppose that I could get a small amount of leather cement and glue the stray strands back into a neater arrangement if I was desperately bothered.

I sent L&M Don's comments and some of my own about improvements to the tassels and "D" strap. I should have some feedback from them this morning.
