It dinna werk oot fer me to go aun oot
to the local scottish themed pub to celebrate
the great bards' birthday this 'een so I toasted
him in my home in the presence of my wee wife and
bairns and made them listen to me read "To a Mouse"
by same auld bard. They were less than enthralled.
May I offer a joke recently heard:
The Queen ventured north to Auld Reekie (Edinburgh)
to visit a new hospital.........the orderly led her
through the wings and units as she conversed with the
patients offering greetings and such........
At last, she visited one more wing.....approaching
a patient she said "and how are you today"? The
patient said "ahhhh great chieftain o' the puddin' race"!!
The Queen smiled and moved on......."and how are YOU
today"? The patient responded...."green grow the rashes oh, green grow the rashes oh...the dearest hours that ere I spent are spent amang the lasses oh"......"oh dear", said the Queen and moved on....
Approaching one more patient she bid him a fine good day whereupon he replied "ye wee, cowering, timorous beastie"!!......The Queen withdrew and quietly asked the orderly escorting her..."What is this? The mental ward? For the nutters"?
No, said the orderly........This is the Burns Unit.
Cheers and long live the memory of the immortal
Robbie..........

I'm off tonight to the Toronto Scottish Rugby Club's annual Burns supper at Hart House, University of Toronto.
Atendance is restricted to men only (which has raised some ire from the women and other politically correct).
Expected turnout is approx. 400!
Cheers,
Chris

In the spirit of multi-culturalism, I spent Burns night in a Senagalise restraunt (kilted of course).
I did manage to have lunch at a local Scottish place, and am a little bummed that I couldn't get haggis until that night.

I went to the Doolin's and met up with BEar and Toddish. It was fun and I was buzzed without having to spend a dime on the alcohol!! (I am a cheap Drink) I also spend part of the evening doing some planning for the August Gathering!!
I had some haggis and I liked it. It doesn't taste bad at all.

Burns Night
My first of three Burns Nights went very well indeed. Our local St. Andrew's Society had our Burns Supper on January 15 at the local Sheraton Hotel. We had 96 folks in attendance, and everyone seemed to have a really great time!
Your 'umble correspondent served as the Chairman of the Supper, and our Immortal Memory and Address to the Haggis was given by a Scottish expat from Dunfermline in the Kingdom of Fife. Musical entertainment was provided by Alex Sutherland & His Cronies http://www.alexsutherland.com, and our society piper, who played with the Chieftains a year ago when they came to Springfield.
Our Haggis was provided by the Caledonian Kitchen http://www.caledoniankitchen.com in the Republic of Texas, and very little was left over at the end of the evening! We exchanged Burns Night greetings with the Caledonian Societies of Norway, Sweden and the Northwest Territorial Pipe Band in Yellowknife, in the Northwest Territories of Canada.
I'm off to the Scottish Club of Fort Smith, Arkansas, for their Burns Supper next weekend, and then a "stag" Burns Supper in St. Louis at the Cheshire Lodge (ever been there, Dana?)
I love this time of year!
Cheers,
Todd
