Tom, welcome to the board and very cool on the scouting. I'm an assistant scout master and have been using a casual kilt for hiking. When my son and I showed up for a backpack trip in kilts last year, there were some snickers (from the mother, not the hikers, interestingly) and when he and I were fully comfortable in the downpour, I think there are some serious thoughts to other kilted hikers in the future. Of course with him in college now, he doesn't have much time to hike, but still ...

Welcome,
Back before I sobered up I got very very drunk on saki at a Japanese restaurant in some industrial section of Minneapolis...had hallucinations of seeing a giant spoon with a giant cherry on it in some park...

Spoon and Cherry
Ah yes, the famous giant spoon and cherry. Personally, I'd rather see the sundae that goes with it.
