Johnny Carson used to host a nightly late night TV Show called The Tonight Show. Almost everyone watched it, and he was the host for 30 years or so.

One of Johnny's regular skits, not every night but generally once a week or so, called the Great Carnack. Carnack was a mystic with huge turban and cape of some gaudy gold material. The bit was that he would give answers to questions he'd not yet read. They were "Sealed in envelopes, sealed in a mayonaise jar of Funk & Wagnalls doorstep." That line was used by Johnny's sidekick, Ed McMahon (who claimed one of his ancestors Marshall McMahon's cook had invented mayonaise sauce for the Marshall's table).

Johnny Carson retired about 15 or 20 years ago, and recently died. That was why I said the comment would show my age.
