Wow! Thanks for all of the contructive comments. I'll definitely bring up the kilt and the hose up a bit. I don't know if I can come up with a belt by Friday but I'll see what I can do.

Sorry I didn't explain my job. I'm a research scientist (geochemist) and I won't be doing any lab work that day so I can wear just about anything to work barring t-shirts and ratty shorts.

As many of you already mentioned the red is a difficult color to work with especially because I don't look terribly good in it. I may try a brown or beige shift to soften it, as mentioned. I may also try a black shirt. Probably dress shirts but maybe also a polo (I would have never thought of that).

Once I get myself together I'll put up another pic. Thanks all!

The comments already given are all good advice, especially the part about the belt. Right now your outfit just doesn't look complete.

One thing that I don't believe anyone has mentioned yet - whatever color you decide on, try to match the color of your socks to that of the shirt. It gives you a more balanced appearance.

You guys sure do flip around. Last month the belt was on option!

To answer your question, my wife bought me two sweaters and two turtle necks to go with my kilts. All are in the green/beige area.

With a more contemporary kilt I'd say that belts are an option. And when wearing a Prince Charlie & vest, a belt is rather redundant. But with a traditional kilt with a high rise a belt seems necessary from an aesthetic point of view. However, it is purely decorative. And with a kilt that bright red, a nice black belt seems even more necessary to break up the bright shirt from the bright kilt and also to cover up just a bit of the red.
