    hmm...

    thermal dynamics ( hot air does rise, and will take anything it can with it!)
    Inter-species relations (yes, there are some people who just might be from another planet)
    Stand-up philosophy - Ever meet a kiltie who didn't have some crazy story to tell over a pint?
    Leather work
    improvisational needlework carpet needles are not just for carpets anymore
    Substitute MC - a kilt, a pint and a microphone are not to be used together in public.

    Lately I've been working on my skills as a semi-professional wingman. It seems that no matter how shy a guy is, put him in a kilt and he is an instant hit, and my single drinking buddies can sometimes use the help.

    I can empty a pint of Guinness and than order another....

    I can tell the difference between single malt and blends and I can tell the region of the whisky (most of the time).

    I have learnt how to sit like a lady.......not sure why I sweep my jeans and shorts now though

    I have learnt to show of the wedding ring so that I don't have to turn down all these women everytime they approach

    I have learnt that kilted men are often the most enjoyable to shoot the breeze with.

    Now to go about learning an instrument and to improve my sewing.

    What have YOU picked up/learned since you donned the kilt?
    When the last of our kids left home, I made my first cotton casual kilt by hand.

    Since then:
    1) acquired heavy duty sewing machine for leather and upholstery;
    2) leatherworking for belts, sporrans, and diaper bags;
    3) skinning and tanning small furbearing mammals for sporrans;
    4) learned suppliers to collect suitable fabrics (incl. solids, tartans, patterned, camo), notions, and other supplies to make kilts and sporrans;
    5) haunt thrift stores;
    6) signed up for five days of advanced instruction in kiltmaking;
    7) use digital photography and processing to document my creations;
    8) overhauled my casual and outdoor wardrobe;
    9) joined a clan association and attend highland games;
    10) better social interaction (sometimes) with complete strangers;
    11) joined with wife in her new jewelry and beads hobby.

    Thre are probably a few others, but my brain is hurting...

    My musical horizons have also expanded. I find myself listening to a lot more Irish/Celtic music, and a lot of bagpipe tunes as well. It's rather fun to sing a traditional drinking song while kilted.

    It IS a big step. I've found a 4 year old Leclerc loom for sale and have spoken with the owner several times.

    Let's make a deal if you buy it... I want some of the Warren Tartan (which doesn't exist, but in my mind) and am not ready to pay $2000 US for it.

    And I've picked up the Celtic music thing myself. Been listening to CelticRadio.net a lot lately
