Oh man, don't do that! The grass will cling to the kilt something fierce and drop off all over the house later,,,ehr,,,so I'm told,,,I wouldn't know myself of course, being the considerate husband that I am. A "smooth" fabric kilt like the utilikilt or Amerikilt or even a Sportkilt would be a better choice for lawn mowing,,,not that I'd know,,,I mean,,,

I haven't mowed the lawn in my Wallace economy, but I do enjoy the heck out of doing evrything else in it. For $40-50 you just can't beat 'em. Also, they do have 3 straps and buckles, they are just not quite as substantial as the Standard. I still can't make up my mind on my next kilt, but I will say after hearing so many positive comments on SWK Standards, that I might go with a Nightstalker myself!

I have never owned anything but 13 & 16 oz. wool 'tanks' made in Scotland but I broke down more out of curiousity and ordered a Stillwater Nightstalker and flyplaid and when I recieved it in less than a week I was very surprized at how light it was and had my reservations about using it but after some minor work on the straps and a good pressing with some starch for good measure I did wear it out and had a great time with no problem with the pleats.
I was so pleased with the kilt that I ordered a Black Stewart w/flyplaid two weeks later. These are both standard kilts and like I said, perfectly serivcable for all intents and purposes but I would not order an economy myself, I can't see anything any lighter being right for anything but that is my own opinion.

Stick with the Standard or Heavyweight. The Economy is a waste of money unless one just wants to find out what a kilt feels like. But after a few trips through the wash it will be pretty much a pilled out rag.

I have the Gordon Tartan Economy Kilt and it has been washed quite a few times and the only problem I had was the pilling and I got rid of that with a fabric shaver and the kilt looks fine. I wear mine to the bar and around town and all I get is compliments. Now when going to the games or Robbie Burns dinner or the theater I wear My Black Watch Heavyweight Kilt- 100% Wool and even the hard nose trad kilt wearers don't know the dif. I do wish that Jerry had the Wallace in standard or Heavyweight.

I wish that SWK had a Gordon in heavyweight. I would be all over it. I only have SWK economy pieces... and I like them for what they are... and they are comfy. I wore mine around the Enumclaw Highland Games venue and no one said a word to me about it not being proper or anything.
Good for the money. Be careful, so you don't have to wash it often.
