Welcome to the rabble o' kilties! When you do get your kilt make sure it is on straight and wear it proudly.

I have never seen anyone in this area wearing a kilt, so I may be setting a new standard here If anyone on this forum is from this area, I'd like to hear from you! I could use any advice you can give.
Welcome aboard, John.
My only advice would be the following: make no excuses for wearing a kilt.
If someone asks you why you're wearing it, simply tell them "because I like it."
You shouldn't have to justify anything to anyone, so it really doesn't matter if you wear it for family history or tradition, for the heat, etc. Just be confident in your wearing of it and you'll be fine.

Welcome John, as for Virginia and conservatism, i can only say that i and my best friend have introduced kilts to the Williamsburg area for the last 5 New Years with heaps of positive comments - not to mention hits by very lovely ladies, well not me, but my friend. I don't think political or sociological stripe will ever come in to play. Enjoy.

Welcome to xmts. Buying a kilt eh? Sooner is good.
You'll truly enjoy the difference!
Go, have fun, don't work at, make it fun! Kilt them, for they know not, what they wear. Where am I now?

I live outside Knoxville, TN, and I know what you mean about conservative. But, I have worn my UK pretty much everywhere, including church functions, and people seem pretty positive. I just figure, if they're gonna poke fun, it's only because they're obviously not man enough to wear one themselves!

Welcome from the highlands of North Atlanta. You live in the one of the cradles of Scots-Irish history, encourage your neighbors to get their kilts out of the closet, wear them and celbrate their heritage.
