Welcome!
Oh...best stick to inches, kilts (and all kilt related gear) are always measured in inches.
You'll get used to it...well...I did
I have a measuring tape with both inches and metric...handy!!!

Welcome from Northeast Florida.
Most tape measures give you a choice. Then go with the one the kiltmaker requests. Metric is fine for the precision but how precise do you need after 1/8 inch increments. If you find the kilt getting to loose then eat a lot of shortbread. If too tight let out a pleat. Ain't kilts great!
Cheers! Bill

Welcome to the boards! This is pretty fun place to "hang out" online. Lots of good natured folks on here, and typically with a great sense of humour. If you must measure, use what ever system the maker uses, simplest answer... which is usually the better one.
Of course, you could always take things back a ways, and go with belted plaid, or feilidh beag, and cut out the worry of measurements all together (more or less), and if you gain some weight, or lose some, it'll make very little difference... just change your pleating!
Lots of variety... depending on what you are interested in. Heh.. .happy hunting!

Welcome from deepest West Sussex on the coast of southern England.
Oh, inches every time. Not that I build kilts, but I have never understood metric anything - am only just getting used to our metric monetary system!!

What part of New England are you from? That is the only place I know of where anyone says "Youse" ( I grew up in massachusetts...where the ever popular "Y'all" from the south is pronounces "Youse Guys")

Thanks Y'all for the Warm Welcome...
Last things first....i am actually born in Texas and lived in AZ and NM most of my life...so not a whit of New England or the South...The Youse and Y'all are just for fun...
Anyhow, Thanks for the warm welcome..A Hay, a member here, introduced me to this Fine Rabble o' Kilties and, after reading a few of the post by Pour1Malt and Hamish and many of the other regulars, I knew I had found a like-minded band of free-thinkers.
So here's to you, my kilted colleagues, . Can any one invent a smiley for the raising of a dram o' Scotch?
First things last....i think a metric/inches tape will work if I can find one here in Germany
ps. sorry for the last response..DT switched my phone and internet to my neighbors's apt. last week and took a week to get here to resolve it...
