Good grief, how many washings does it take to soften this thing? Mine's been washed and softened over a dozen times and it's still fairly stiff. I feel like I need to take it down to the creek and beat it against the rocks or something. Is there some technique I can use to loosen it up more quickly?
BTW, for those misaligned snaps you might try what I've done as I've lost weight and found that the snaps are located incorrectly for my new size. I just put hook-and-loop tape [like VelcroŽ] in the waistband so I can wrap the kilt more tightly, and I don't fasten the snaps at all. They just become decorative at that point.

Knock the dust off this thread eh?
I washed SIX times in unscented Downy...think also let it sit in the washer in unscented Downy overnight a couple times.
But, like other denim garments, the best way to break it in is to wear it a LOT. Mines a dream now. Very soft....and way too small for me...so a closet queen until either I lose weight or someone wants to buy it.

I have two DYI blue denim kilts. No snaps, just velcro.
One is a "50 yard" kilt, but the other looks good enouh to wear, which I am doing as we speak
Mine is as soft as denim is going to get.
It is one my favorite camping klts.

I wonder why UK dropped their denim line. It's no longer on the website.

I've decide on a UK in black Denim for my next kilt (It was a toss up between that and a Utilikilt, and frankly, the UK is more affordable for me right now). I'm glad to hear from the kilted that it is a reliable choice.

In our little corner of the 'net UK=Utilikilt. Do you mean Union Kilt?
Best regards,
Jake

Yes I do actually, my apologies for the misuse of the above stated acronym. I don't think I'll mind the stiffenss everyone is talking about so much, but then again, I do like starched shirts and well pressed clothing.

Has anyone succeeded in softening a Workman's UK up to the point where a crease won't stay stuck like that? I recently got one in caramel, but the fabric is so stiff that you can't sit down without it showing for the rest of the day.
