Welcome from Georgia Sebastyen! I have visited Russia several times over the last couple of years. What part are you originally from and what brought you to Texas?

Actually, I'm American-born and raised. My family is from Moskva and Volgograd. My family seemed to settle on Texas because of the warm climate... I prefer snow, to be frank.

    Oops, sorry for the assumption

Each time I go to Russia, I have to flow through Moskva. I have yet to make it to Volgograd, but maybe someday. Most of my time is spent down in the North Cuacauses near the Georgia border. Very interesting place and if you like snow, there it is!

    Not To Worry

    Sebastyen,

I think you'll be surprised at the (1) lack of response, and (2) positive responses you'll receive while wearing a kilt. I'm in Alaska and I understand you'll be dealing with a different demographic, but (having travelled in Texas and worked in Oklahoma) I believe you will encounter much the same thing as I have.

I am also new to wearing a kilt, so I can only tell you about my six month's of experience, but most people I encounter either don't notice or pretend not to notice that I'm wearing a kilt. (I wear Utilikilt Mockers now with a wool kilt on order.) Almost everyone who's engaged me in conversation had something good to say about my kilt. The one or two exceptions I've encountered were negative comments from co-workers (2 out of a more than a hundred) who would have found something else to be rude about if it hadn't been my kilt.

Several other people have made great suggestions that duplicate what I did: wear your first kilt around the house to get used to it, then wear it out for short errands to the store. Your confidence will show, so let them know that you are!

I also recommend obtaining a few accessories to go with your kilt, even if you decide to go with a non-traditional kilt. A good belt and a sporran of some sort help you feel like you're wearing something with purpose. There are lots of choices out there - you're sure to find something that will fit your budget and taste.

    Welcome!
