As another eagle scout ( Troop 32 - Marion, MA) I've seen scant few kilted scouts, other than at the 1989 National Jamboree. Unfortunatly, I have no idea what the tartans I saw were, although there were several to be found.

As far as what is allowed now, I've worn my kilt to every scout function I've been to since I've had a kilt, and have had no opposition from the local council.

I am an active adult in the Boy Scouts of America. I'm a Unit Commissioner in my District, Assistant Scoutmaster for a Troop, District Venturing Trainer, & Assistant Program Advisor for Venture Crew 1298 in Dallas, Texas.

As many have stated there is no official policy for kilts in the BSA regulations.
Venturing is a division of the Boy Scouts open to BOTH Male & Female youth Ages 14-20. Venturing has NO official uniform requirements, but are recommended to wear the Spruce Green Uniform shirt, and Grey Venturing Shorts.

That being said, my Venture Crew Youth and Adults are mostly kilted for events. My crew wears Post Civil War US Calvary Uniforms, Blue Jacobites & Kilts, Cowboy wear, and similar dress from the late 1800's in America. Primarily focused on clothing worn in Texas during the great move westward. We are a living history focused group. There are other Crews that do something very similar. Crew 1876 from Fort Worth, Texas does living history of a 1876 year frontier fort. They even own 6 howitzer cannons.

Since a MacLaren is the one who donated the property for the first Woodbadge in England, and MANY Founding Scouters have Scottish ties, like William Carter Beard, and the infamous Mr. Boyd who is the one who brought Boy Scouts to America, our Venture Crew supports the Scottish ways by wearing Black Watch or MacLaren. Even our Epaulets worn on the Green uniform shirt are MacLaren. The MacLaren Society of North Texas helps us put on a Highland Fling/Burn's Night Ball every year. Haggis is served. It's a great time to see the youth growing and taking an active process in learning about Highland culture.

(This should give you an idea of why I've been asking about Post Civil war 79th Highlanders from New York.) Our next goal is to have a youth 79th in our group of units.

The post civil war Camerons, that's one helluva idea. I wonder where you got it from.

    Very cool Fearnest.
I wore my kilt as much as I could at the 2005 National Scout Jamboree, but I was on National Staff in the Scout Shop near Trading Post B. I was told that official on the clock uniform for Venturers was Green Shirt, and Grey Shorts. I was basically forced into buying $34 shorts if I wanted to wear my green shirt. *sigh*

I was a Scout in Scotland before my family emigrated. There was no official Scout tartan that I am aware of. All members wore their own kilts but all the accessories (i.e. hose, garters, sporran etc.) and the rest of the uniform were the same.

Another Eagle Here. My son is about at Scout age so we'll probably be getting involved with the local troop soon. We'll see how the kilt goes.

The local scout office is in the city here and I've been in there several times kilted so it shouldn't be an issue.

You know, I'm thinking back to my Scouting days and I had a tartan neckerchief. It was red and green, and I haven't a clue what tartan it was.

Maybe it was part of my Webelos uniform? we're talking late 1960's early 1970's here.
