Because I would prefer to buy my products from a Scottish source. I don't equate kilts with jeans or some other regular garment. To me, a kilt -especially a tartan kilt and its accessories- is a representation of a heritage and culture. That heritage isn't in Pakistan.

Before this turns into a "political thread", I would offer a brief reminder of the "non-partisan" nature of this board.
Guys, please remember that the "Pakistani made" vs. "non Pakistani Made" kilt issue is kind of hot-button with lots of members here falling on either side of the fence.

It's less to do with origin but with honesty about origin.
Everyone has the right to buy from where they will but it should be from informed choice and not because of being misled.
Here in the EU certain descriptions are "copyright" to a country or an area, for example to be called Sherry it has to come from Spain. If it doesn't come from Spain it has to be called something else, for example "British Fortified Wine."
I'm not sure that the EU could be persuaded to apply the same "copyright" to a kilt as having to come from Scotland (or of course cilt having to come from Wales!) and anything else being termed "pleated male skirt" or whatever and besides which it would have no force outside of the EU in any case.
So clear no nonsense labelling is the way to go and then everyone can make an informed choice.

For reasons of truth (i.e. "truth in advertising"), you should be able to make up your own minds as consumers. Here is the full response from Mark Wright regarding the origination of his kilts and his "support of the scottish community":
"Greetings. I am one of the owners of The Frugal Corner. We do not get our kilts from Stillwater Kilt. I am sure tehy get theirs from the same place we do. We actually supply some other stores with Kilts, Sporrans, and bagpipes. WE SUPPORT LOCAL SCOTTISH EVENTS WITH DONATIONS. We sell kilts depending on weight (13/16 oz) from $43.21. We also will get tartans custom made and we carry tartans that others don't have. Our kilts have three buckles and straps (even the lighter weight ones). I have not looked at the stillwater kilts (I believe they are most likley just adding a sewn in label to the kilts they purchase) but I think our would be as good if not better. Check out our feed back on ebay and as of today we have not had one negative comment. BUT Even if our products cost $2 more..we hope that our service and support of the scottish community makes it worth while for you to suport us.

Well, our kilts do have sewn down pleats on the hip and we did have some photos to show what we could make that are used on about 500 other sites..we removed them so as not to confuse folks. A few people wanted to purchase the blonde.
Some makers in Pakistan won a army contract to provide kilts to some English Army regiments and there are kilt stores in Scotland that sell the same kilts that we sell.
I have a pure 100% Scottish Kilt in the Leatherneck tartan that I paid over $350 dollars for and honestly the 16 oz kilts we sell are thicker and you can not tell to look at them which is which.
Any ways..lets all promote wearing of the Kilt..and See you at the Minnesota Highland games
