I believe I remember reading recently that whiskey sales in the US were not projected to increase. This looks like a response to that, much the way that Gin distillers have been introducing flavored gins to try to take back ground from the huge increase in vodka sales.
Though if I want flavored scotch I'll have a Rusty Nail*
Cheers

I've tried it (I guess one of my friends got a hold of the trial run here in Boston). It's, um, sweet. And doesn't taste like the Macallan. Not my thing at all, but I guess it's no crazier than Drambuie.

Honestly, If I saw that sitting on someone's counter I would think it was perfume. Not how I would expect to purchase a bottle of scotch.
I'm willing to try anything once. That said, so long as they don't get rid of the real stuff its all good.

Read this:
>>"One US-based website, The Scotch Blog, gave its hearty endorsement. Editor Kevin Erskine told The Scotsman: "Amber smells like the best maple syrup you've ever had. You have to really get your nose in to detect the Macallan.
"It's not for purists, it's an entry-level drug which gets people acquainted with the taste of whisky." "<<

Oh $#!+...some people will drink anything. My daughter and I were in the liquor department at CVS yesterday looking of a quick bottle of wine and she pointed to some dreck that I can't remember the name of and asked what it was..."..that's for people who want to drink whisky but don't like whisky...the same way that light beer is beer for people who don't like beer...".
Couldn't they just mix some Mr's Butterworth's with grain alcohol and be satisfied?

As should the bartender at the Los Gatos Brewing Company last night, who did not know what a Rusty Nail was either!
Be well,

Also as one who has tried it. I agree with Andrew it is sweet, just so-so nothing to compare to the good stuff however.

Being someone who doesn't like beer, I think the solution to that problem is to either learn to like it, or drink something else.

Although I must agree that it is sacrelige to taint The Macallan, we have a maple flavoured whisky that is damn fine. It's called "Sweet Sippin' Maple Whisky". It's made in High River, Alberta and contains just two ingredients: pure Canadian rye whisky and the best Canadian maple syrup. It is sweet but with a touch of lemon and club soda, it is downright refreshing. It's even better with an ounce or two of cream. On pancakes it makes breakfast a whole 'nother thing.
