Wow, that was an encouraging story. Do you live near Detroit? I've been real hesitant to wear mine much around here, I've had a couple bad experiences while standing around waiting for parades to start (I'm in a pipe band). Maybe I'll give it a try anyway.

I'm 20 minutes West of Flint in Corunna.
Perhaps a kilt night somewhere in the middle if we could get a few more to attend? How far are you from I-75 and I-696? There's a great brewpub there that would be perfect for such an event. NO food, but you can bring in take out if you'd like.

Good job Rikk,
The only way to get used to wearing a kilt in the wind is to wear a kilt in the wind.
You'll soon learn when corrective/protective action is needed and when its just the wind dancing in your pleats.
And - you'll learn vigilance at entryways to buildings, near vehicles, and passing alleys.
Practice practice practice....
And, as you found out on your maiden voyage, you're gonna meet a LOT of people you'd never met before.

I wore my kilt out for the first time last week. I got a few strange looks at the gas station and the next door neighbors asked me why I was wearing my wife's clothes. But, people in Mississippi aren't accustomed to seeing kilts.
I really don't care what Mississippians think about my kilt cause I got me a good lookin woman who loves a man in a kilt! What better reason to wear one?

Ah. Mississippi. I lived in Jones County, a few miles North of Hebron, in the early sixties and I'm here to tell you that I doubt if anyone around there had ever even seen a picture of a kilt, much less the real thing. So--more power to you! As you have already discovered it is no big deal.

I love to hear from guys who take their first outing in the kilt. It's rarely a bad experience.
It's funny that my wife is always apprehensive about me going kilted but never me. I've had very few negative comments in the 8 or 9 years I've been wearing one, and those were mostly from people who were jealous, to be frank. Never bothered me.
Nice story, Rikk. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent story, and a good first outing, glad you had a good time, having fun in a kilt is so much easier isn't it?

Good story with great results and a pleasant first time out experience.
This so true with most of our first time outs
We seem to be more concerned about the reactions to wearing the kilt than
the general public
My first time out in public was at a farmers market in Boulder CO.
I was feeling a little insecure when two ladies walking towards me made the comment "Look at that pretty dress"
I immeditely thought that the comment was directed to me.
I was really surprised to see that behind me was a woman wearing a Victorian era dress complete with hoop skirt. She was advertising a local play.
My wearing a kilt didn't make a blip on anyones radar.

Yeah, I'd be down with that. I'm sure big paul would come.
Are you talking about Dragonmead or Kuhnhenn by the way? Either would be a good choice.
