Ah whenever I get the chance to name (or suggest a name for) a dog, I always flash back to "The Jerk."
"Hey mister, you shouldn't call that dog 'lifesaver,' you should call him 's&%#-head.'"
"OK."
As a consequence, my son's last dog was "Damien" to him, and "s&%#-head" to me. He answered to both, and seemed OK with it. 
But as that name is taken, and not always family friendly, I'd also vote for "Dawg."

If I ever get a little boy dog, I'll probably name him Raoul Duke.
And get him a buddy named Dr. Gonzo.
