I almost always get free drinks, mostly from kilt loving ladies. On St.Patricks day I had so many girls want a picture with me I started joking that I should charge for it, and I began getting beers in payment

I quit alcohol more than two years ago. Nowadays when I'm offered a free drink because I'm kilted I'm happy to accept an orange juice or a coffee.

I've been offered quite a few times while I was living in Chico. It's a small college town, and usually it would be by the ladies or drunken guys who were just fascinated with the idea of someone wearing a kilt.

Strangely enough, I am offered more meals than drinks.

Don't much get out to pubs anymore. This year I did go out on the evening of St. Paddy's day with my son and a couple of his fellow Marines. My son and myself, along with a couple of the others were kilted, but I suspect the free beer had more to do with my pipes, and the Marines than the kilts.
At the last bar we were in there was a photographer set up to take pictures of anyone who cared to buy a shot memorializing their St. Paddy's day festivities (in case they celebrated too hard, I guess). He approached me with the offer that he would pay me $1 for everyone I brought over to have their picture taken with the piper. I told him that anyone who wished to have a picture taken with me was welcome to do so, but I wasn't going to shill for his operation. With the prevalence of picture phones, and digital cameras these days, I don't imagine he got many takers.

So far no one has offered to buy me beer for being in a kilt and that's simply because I don't go to pubs or clubs that much. But if it happens I'll let y'all know about it!
